Art and Society

On the occasion of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's new work Exit Above - after the tempest, which was presented on 25/6 at the Herodeion, in the framework of the Athens Epidaurus Festival with exclusive sponsorship by Piraeus, the two institutions, the Festival and Piraeus, are co-organizing an open discussion-roundtable on the interaction between Art and Society.

The focus of the discussion is on Man and the ultimate goal is an Art that unites and transforms the stage into a place of encounter with Others. The free and profound dialogue of the artist with the social and political scene is more necessary today than ever before, when everywhere in the world peace, justice, freedom and the very life of the planet are in danger.

Acclaimed artists and art people from different artistic fields meet to share their experiences and thoughts on how art can illuminate dark or unseen aspects of everyday life and act as a channel that will lead us to a vision of inclusion, accessibility, solidarity, social solidarity and contribution.

Sharing this perspective, Piraeus implements a Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, at the core of which is the "EQUALL - For a Society of Equal People" programme. The aim of the programme is to contribute to the elimination of all forms of violence, inequalities, discrimination, exclusion and gender stereotypes faced by women and vulnerable social groups. Furthermore, to empower the younger generation with the necessary skills to become stronger and achieve their goals.

This year Piraeus launched an important collaboration with the Athens Epidaurus Festival, the largest cultural institution in Greece. This cooperation is an initiative of top value as it expands Piraeus' activities in the field of Art and Culture.

Participants in the open discussion include:

  • Eleni Demopoulou, director, Artistic Director of En δυνάμει Group
  • Konstantinos Markoulakis, actor/director
  • Ekaterini Papageorgiou, director
  • Elena Topalidou, actress/dancer
