KΘBE - 4th Forest Festival 2018 // Athens Festival 2019 // European tour through Perform Europe 2022 // KΘBE 2022 // Piraeus Municipal Theatre 2022
What is love? How do we experience it? Does everyone have access to it? How can such a small moment lead to an unstoppable fantasy, a mind-boggling thought? And how can love equate people - however different they may be - into a single state, that of the lover?
The team, after months of research, attempts to document the course of an "...ah!", an exclamation that accompanies love at first sight, rejection, uplift, pain and pleasure. It is a performance a hymn to the source vitality, to the sexual drive, to all the senses that have been entrenched by a strictly rationalistic conception of life. A performance that transcends social barriers and sets aside obstacles to talk about the unwise, the instinct, the forbidden, the imagination, the soul that ultimately insists on the quest for total and two-way love.
"It was clearly the most important thing I've seen in the theatre in my life - the most important thing I've felt in that (usually futile and self-annulled) anticipation of the upside-down ecstasy that unites people not with the smell of blood but with the spasms of tears." wrote Th. Triarides wrote about the performance.
The Horses in Love is the third part of a theatrical trilogy entitled The Other Normal. The first part of the trilogy, The Fan Man or How to Dress an Elephant, a production of the "En Dynami" group, was presented at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival (2015), the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, the 4th Our Stage Festival in Dresden and the 54th Dimitria, among others, while the second part, The Other House, a production of the Onassis Cultural Centre, was presented at the Onassis Cultural Centre and the 51st Dimitria.
All three productions are directed by Eleni Efthymiou, under the artistic direction of Eleni Demopoulou. In this theatrical trilogy, "En Dynami" explores the question: "What is not Normal is Other?" and at the same time seek to make the abnormal known and familiar through the sharing of true stories of people who experience the negative connotation of "Other".
The text of the performance is the result of research on the issue of love and disability and is composed of edited excerpts from interviews and original texts by the members of the group. Among others, the text "The Convention" by Giota Tembriou is heard, while there are diffuse references to iconic phrases of great thinkers and writers about what we call love.
