"2ο School of Directing in the School of Aristotle - 2500 years later"

The School of Directing is a Theatre Research Laboratory, which was launched by the Municipal Regional Theatre of Veroia in the summer of 2020 under the responsibility of the artistic director of the Municipal Regional Theatre of Veroia. For one week young creators of theatre art had the opportunity to attend practical courses, lectures and masterclasses and share with their teachers their artistic anxieties about the future of theatre and in particular to explore the very sensitive position of the director within it.
The lessons of 1th School of Directing were conducted by the directors Yannis Leontaris, Dimitris Karantzas and Io Bulgarian and the masterclasses by the acting teacher of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. and actress Efi Stamoulis, the Lecturer of Theatrology and director Glykeria Kalaitzis, the director Yannis Paraskevopoulos, the theatre photography teacher Tasos Thomoglou and the director Eleni Efthymiou with the En Dynami Group.
All the lessons took place in the emblematic site of the Nymphaeum of Mieza and the Ancient Theatre - Gymnasium, the very same place where Aristotle, centuries ago, taught and left us as a legacy the definition of Ancient Drama.
2ο School of Directing
After a very difficult year, when the role of the director, the limits and the position of the director as a visionary of the performance went through a very big crisis, the need to continue the School of Direction and its institutionalization seems necessary. The director can no longer be simply, a talented person with great ideas, who works with a group of actors and brings them to a result.
Where we ended up, teachers and students after the end of 1th School of Directing in the summer of 2020, is that a director must, in addition to great ideas, have a working method, so that he can manage his human resources with absolute respect. There should be a code of ethics that protects first and foremost the director as a creator but also the result of the collaboration itself. It is therefore necessary to redefine the position of the director and to clarify the limits of the director.
The aim of the 2th School of Directing for the summer of 2021 is to be expanded to run two cycles focusing on two central issues: the code of conduct and the practical application of the working method.
The students of the first cycle (the young students) will learn the basic principles and working methods of their teachers, experiential acting workshops, take part in masterclasses and attend screenings of performances together with the students of the second cycle. They will also work with the students of the second cycle to participate as actors in the performances they will direct.
The students of the second cycle (the students of 1th School of Directing) will continue their work on a practical basis with the teachers - directors, who taught them in 1ο School of Directing. Their aim will be to create short performances, which after the completion of the course, will be presented in the neighbourhoods of Veroia, Naoussa, in archaeological sites, at the Aliakmonas dam and in areas outside the urban centre. Our intention is not only to research the new forms of the art of theatre but also to communicate them to the public.
The D.P.E.T.E. Veroia is the School of Directing to be institutionalized, so that every summer Imathia becomes a place of meeting, exploration and fermentation of the development of theatrical art.
The duration of the 2th School of Directing is scheduled from 29 August to 15 September 2021.
The participants will be a total of 50 young directors and actors from Greece and Cyprus, to whom you will provide free training, accommodation and transport to the venues of the courses.

The Directing School is addressed to:
- To young directors who have at least one professional directing job on their CV.
- To graduates of drama schools.
- Graduates of theatre university practical courses and directors, who must include a video of a directing project (as part of a course or thesis) in their application.

Declaration of participation
Applicants must be graduates of drama schools and/or theatrical university departments in Greece or abroad, and by Friday 23.7.2021 they must send an application including a CV, with a photo, electronic videos of their work (not required for professional directors) to the following address: dipethever@yahoo.gr
The selection will be based on CVs with a maximum number of twenty (20) participants.
Participants undertake to their transportation at the beginning and at the end of the courses from and to the Naoussa Environmental Education Centre and their food.
