Γουτού Γουπατού

Wutu Wupatu

A story about otherness, disability, the Other and the ego. The story of small incidents of everyday violence and big moments of friendship, trust and love.

A story of the time. A story of now.

of Alexandros Papadiamantis

Alexandros Papadiamantis' deeply human short story "Goutou Gupatu", written 100 years ago, talks to true stories of children and teenagers of the 21st century, listens to them and with humour gently winks at every person who feels "different".

How from the extremes can we rebuild a new beginning?

A dive into the micro-universe of Tapoi's Manolios, who was feared by the dudes of the market, mocked by the girls of the neighbourhood, feared by the infants and toddlers. Intimidation and mockery are intertwined with tenderness and affection, strangeness and wonder.

A story about otherness, disability, the Other and the ego. The story of small incidents of everyday violence and big moments of friendship, trust and love.

In a 6-member mixed troupe, actors with and without disabilities, transform themselves, sing and tell the story of Manolio, which is so similar to their own story...

The group En Dynami, always inspired by the personal quests and concerns of its members and the social issues that concern society, tries through art to lead to new discoveries and to awaken the minds of viewers and not only on key issues related to disability and beyond. In the new performance of the group "Wootoo Wupatu", spectators and company are immersed in a reflective journey of exploring the socially imposed and personal stigma of each and every person. In order to ferment the notion that change towards an inclusive world is in our own hands.

The performance "Goutou Goupatu Goupatu" is part of the theatrical and pedagogical programme "Octopus Society" of the En Dynami group, approved by the Ministry of Education, which is addressed to high schools all over Greece. The 2-hour theatropedagogical programme includes an experiential workshop with the students who attended the performance under the guidance of the 6-member troupe of the En Dynami group. Through the educational programme "Octopus Society", the En Dynami group attempts through art, i.e. the performance and the experiential theatre workshop, to stimulate in the students feelings of equality and equity as well as to stimulate their thinking on issues concerning disability, diversity, justice and injustice, bullying. Through the theatrical form and flow of the workshop, the actors will try to guide the students towards a new inclusive society, far from imposed stereotypes and prejudices. The students' critical thinking and detachment from prejudices will be challenged by the activities and questions of the workshop.

The performance "Goutou Goupatou" will be presented for limited dates and to the public, in evening performances, starting on November 12, 2021 at the ANETON Theatre in Thessaloniki, in collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Culture of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
